"wow" here we are gain with "The Space Babes" the new CD Album and what a cracker it is-full of zest brilliance great tunes, atmospheres and play it again Sam rating-just press the repeat button there is not one bad track on this CD-
So lets take a look :
Track-1 Tornado-already released on a 2 track limited edition CD-I first heard this tune 6 months go and every time I play it -it is like the first time-written for a real Train called Tornado-Great ethereal Voices great Drum sound and tune just never fades
Track-2 Reflection- Slow down on this one after doing the Paddington to Glasgow run with Tornado-Nice Piano and relaxing tune
Track-3 Exodus-great version by The Space Babes tight and powerful
Track-4--Telstar-Can't beat Byrons own description-Nobody beats the original studio version with all the sound effects but everyone has to have a go-Byron has kept the intro effect simple, not tried to recreate it-As versions go this is top class
Track-5-Wonderful Tonight--Eric Clapton song "Space Babes" have made this tune their own-On MY Internet Radio Station I had over 50 requests for this very popular-Great arrangement and feel
Track-6 Night Flight --Space Babes own tune and right out of The Top Draw Joe Meek would of loved the Space Babes with all these original tunes-Pacey and catchy-Nice Guitar break and those great Space Babe voices-
Track-7-Space Spirits-Slow Paced Number Dominated by Piano-Very modern and would make a Great Theme tune for a film-Highlights the great talent Byron has for writing Music-Nice Drum rhythm-as well-tunes within tunes on this brilliant track
Track-8-Amazing Grace- Nice Version if you like this tune. One For your Mum
Track-9 Starchaser-Another original form the musical mind of Byron Elwell- Nice tune again complimented by nice middle eight-
Track-10-Deliverance-whilst some of the Tunes are very Tornado influenced I would not say this one was-opens with clever Guitar lick and goes into nice tune with great Guitar overlay-pretty laid back and funky-
Track-11-Devils Revenge-whew when I first played this track I nearly fell over I had the Volume well up and the sound of whooshing wind and drumming left me with goose pimples then the tune started-this is absolutely fantastic and stands with anything the Tornados ever recorded even without Joes production. The CD is worth buying for this track alone would of been a No.1 back then
Track-12-Man In Black- This is a Tribute to the Man In Black when I first heard it I thought it was for Jet Harris but I presume its for Johnny Cash I am still not sure-as it is Country sounding I presume the later- its an different Direction for the Space Babes-main Guitar tune is good- that quite honestly sounds like it could be a Jet Harris tune
Track-13-Solitude--Another outstanding track nice drumming and excellent tune-
Track-14- Apache-excellent version of the Shadows Tune
Track-15 Reincarnation- Clever Opening followed by a good tune with some clever breaks - and good beat
Track-16-Red River Rock--This is played in the Space Babes style not Johnny & The Hurricanes-How many of you know Mendelssohn wrote this tune
Track-17 Robot--Yes Space Babes on the Tornado kick again , and a very good version-clever intro- if anything a little slow-but the great Space Babes voices really buzz it up
Track-18-Back On The Road-This tune is a totally different tune jazzy and the only track on this CD, I personally am not keen on- Its listenable and does grow on you. If you love Jazz you'll like this
Track-19-New Horizons-That's better "Space Babes" original tune and a good one-Nice voices
Track-20-Final Flight-Space Babes back to their best on a great sounding track pure Tornados in structure and brings back great memories of yonder days-Nice change of keyboard sounds
Track-21 Je T'aime .Moi Non Plus--Nice version of this enormously popular heavy breathing anthem
So to sum up-This is an outstanding Debut release From "The Space Babes" aka "Byron Elwell" an immensely gifted Musician and Player as well as a proficient Sound Recording Engineer and Engineer-A Refreshing Breathe of Air in a Staid and fudge laden Music World- We Want More and More
Overall a great CD and some great tunes-for those of you technically minded all tunes are played on Technics KN6500 and Hammond xk2 keyboards-recorded directly into a computer-the overall production is superb
