Lets not forget the man who created the TORNADOS  "Joe Meek"

Born in Newent Gloucester in April 1929.Joe explored sound from the word go. A lonely introspective child maltreated by his Peers.His problems continued when he became adult.. Due in large part to his upbringing. and lack of love and understanding. Yet through all his insecurities,he thrived on SOUND. Blocked all else out. As his Psyche and Body became twisted and unrecognisable... It was this wierd sense of obsession that created The Tornados sound. The only real genuine Group Joe ever created. It must be said alot of his other records. Particularly male Vocalist's were based on someone. Michael Cox aka Ricky Nelson but a 100 times better. Mike Berry ,Buddy Holly. Not so good but unique,and so forth.However the Tornados were unique. Initially they were probably put together as a Shadow Band, but I doubt it.They were really built around Heinz Burt a good looking lad from Southampton. Who had turned up at Joe's studios' with his band, "The Falcons:"

However Heinz though well thought of by Joe was not a great Musician. Joe had to surround him with Top Class musicians and this he did in bringing in Clem Cattini Drums Alan Caddy Lead Guitar. Alan could also play Violin and Piano. George Bellamy Rythym Guitar and Norman Hale initially on Keyboards also from the Falcons and then Roger Jackson aka Laverne...

The sound that was The Tornados was created by Joe.No doubt there were times when the lad's were not too impressed by the tinny sound Joe came up with.But after all they were Joe's baby. There was no other sound like the Tornados/Plenty of twangy  Guitar bands but no ethereal Music almost Musak at times. At the time the Tornados were very popular at Cinemas. You always heard their Music at intervals or before the Film..

Basically you either liked it or loathed it. However that is the same with anything in life  Right Right

Anyway I love the Tornados and never tire of their Music. Nor did Joe Tire of the Idea of them. They were around for 7 Years made 13 records not including LP's EP's see discography for full info. They also had many members. Yet to Joe that meant nothing he still had The TorjUUGGnados with which to try and produce his sounds..

Joe Had a Fascination with Outer Space and the unknown as is reflected in his recordings an atmosphere of eirieness and fantastic imaginary music..
